Why is Alberta known as the oil and gas province?

I'm doing a summative and I was wondering if anyone knows why Alberta is known as an oil and gas province? Why is Alberta known as the oil and gas province?
Accoridng to Wikipedia, ';Alberta is the largest producer of conventional crude oil, synthetic crude, natural gas and gas products in the country. Alberta is the world鈥檚 2nd largest exporter of natural gas and the 4th largest producer.';Why is Alberta known as the oil and gas province?
Largest reserves of oil and gas in Canada and their boom- bust economy is directly linked.
they have some of the largest deposits of oil shale in the sands

When will the U.S. start drilling for oil and gas in our country to offset these ridiculous gas prices?

It is a great business, lol, the corruption comes together the speculation and the vested interests. Many influential people of USA, receive economic benefits from oil companies, therefore no interest to change this reality, because it would be directly affected. Analyze developments in oil prices, what group has the highest and you will understand what I am talking. When will the U.S. start drilling for oil and gas in our country to offset these ridiculous gas prices?
We already do drill in Texas and Louisiana and other parts of the U.S.

If you are talking about drilling the protected areas of Alaska, numerous research has been done that says even if you could get all the oil out, ship it to refineries, and make it into gas--it would only lower gas prices by about 2 cents.

Plus, you would have to build all the roads, pumps, and pipes to get the oil, not to mention deforestation and pollution from the logging trucks and other vehicles that would be needed. When will the U.S. start drilling for oil and gas in our country to offset these ridiculous gas prices?
My father is a directional driller in the Texas Panhandle and when gas prices go up they work drilling here more than they normally would. My father drills for both natural gases and petrolium. I think that they would drill more in America if they had more people willing to take jobs in the oil field here. Even though the pay is good it still requires sometimes 18 hour work days, 7 days a week and sometimes when the oifield is booming they could be working like this for 3-4 months at a time. They usually live onsite so they cant just go home to their families every night. It is a job that requires alot of sacrifices. Not many people are willing to work those hours and the conditons are outrageous, they could be outside in the wind and rain or even snow in 10 degree weather or wearing thick layers of fire protecting clothes in 100 degree weather. And the oil price per barrell is the same no matter where you are and no matter where it is coming from.
Duh. We already do. And this is why I am floating in the Gulf of Mexico as I type.

But I bet your real question is this... ';When is gas going to be cheap again.';

Suck it up and get used to it. Because the answer is NEVER.

Here is the cold, hard painful truth folks.

Oil production peaked worldwide, even in the Middle East, in the 70's. The easy stuff is gone. It takes MILLIONS of dollars to dig new wells these days. Example... the well I am on right now is being dug under a MILE of water. And we will be digging through another 4 MILES of rock under that. And there may not be anything there.

Sure. We have some more resources in the US. But not for your cheap gas. Because it is no longer possible to get oil out of the ground and to your gas pump cheaply.

So, rather than ask bitter questions on the internet, I suggest you look at your own behavior... evaluate the type of vehicle you drive, and your own driving patterns. Because gasoline is only going to get more expensive.

And eventually, we as Americans will, hopefully, realize that petrochemicals are much too valuable to waste by burning in our vehicles to support our selfish lifestyles.

Wish you all the best.
I think the real answer is technology. What corporation would encourage technology when they are making so much money on high gas prices? America is so slow to ';get it.'; When others are producing small cars and flex fuel cars we are buying SUVs and giant trucks. As long as Americans were paying cheap prices for gas, they had no desire to purchase cars which delivered good gas millage. We are always too late to realize that our ferocious appetite for oil has gotten us in this mess.
better get digging on the new cellar and start stocking the underground larder. time to be more self sufficient - use the car less often - have groceries etc delivered thus giving us time to tend to the vegetable patch and feed the livestock.....as the North Sea oil will run out soon and gas quite soon after that.
well may be when oil and gas of other countries(middle east or venezuela) run out and you can sell your own oil for 300 $ or more per barrel and say its so hard to find then US oil companys will start drilling for oil and gas in your own country.
Majority of US oil comes from three places... USA, Canada, Mexico.

Most people do not know that Canada and Mexico make more money selling oil to USA than the Arabs, Russians and Venezuelans.
America already pays less for gas than any other country in the world that isn't a member of OPEC. How much cheaper do you think it should be?
You guys only have a puny fraction of the resources. They're going to be exhausted within a few more decades.
to get best price say 500dollar per litre

Where shoudl I go to find books on the oil and gas industry?

I work as a librarian and I am constantly in search of a reliable company to source material on the technical side of the oil and gas industry. I want to try and avoid amazon and give something back to the smaller players in the field. Please help!Where shoudl I go to find books on the oil and gas industry?
I can only suggest two:

http://www.gulfpub.com/

http://www.api.org/Publications/

I don't think you will find any small players in the publishing of books related to the oil and gas industry.Where shoudl I go to find books on the oil and gas industry?
If you are looking for used technical books on oil %26amp; gas, they will be hard to source but try either Dealoz.com or Half.com and be prepared to do lots of searching. Dealoz.com replaced CampusI.com and searches for best deal on either used or new books including Amazon.com and Amazon Marketplace.

If you are looking for new books, the the Society of Petroleum Engineers and Pennwell Books are the best sources for technical oil %26amp; gas books.
Look the subject up on the library's computer. The library would have many reference and non-fiction books on the subject!
I agree with Oil Field Trash - there aren't really any small players out there, your best bet would be to check out www.gulfpub.com

Where is all the oil and gas imported to the united states held? before they get to the gas stations ?

i mean, whats the name and is there any conflict in where they decided to put it or in the descision to hold it in this place (or these places) ?

or is there certain ports or a certain trasportation systems or comanies that the oil is specificly shipped to ?Where is all the oil and gas imported to the united states held? before they get to the gas stations ?
Individual oil companies deliberately avoid building up large stockpiles of oil and gas. The lack of a short term reserve encourages immediate supply and geopolitical concerns to impact the oil price, driving it up.

Oil is stored up in the supply chain in the form of wells, pipelines, tankers, ports, refineries, distribution areas, gas stations and finally end users. All major ports in the US either have a major oil terminal or a sister port which handles only oil.

The US government has a Strategic Oil Reserve in California which it started after the crisis of the 70s which it uses only to avoid economic meltdown or military difficulties.Where is all the oil and gas imported to the united states held? before they get to the gas stations ?
Why do you need to know this? Are you part of a terrorist cell bent on blowing it up?

There are various capitalist organizations, known as companies, which either have oil wells in places where there is oil under ground, such as Texas, Gulf Coast, Alaska ... now there's places where there is oil %26amp; it is not taken, like off the East Coast of America where the tourist industry lobbyists think that they might get less tourists if an oil well could be seen from where the tourists are.

So the oil gets to America from these oil wells in pipelines and special tanker ships from places like the Middle East, and they go to places called ';Refineries'; which convert from crude oil to blends used like gasoline and home heating oil.

Most of these are located along the Gulf of Mexico ... not all ... but this is done for several reasons, like when we get bad hurricanes, we have all our nation's eggs in one basket, so it easy for us to be placed at the mercy of Mother Nature. I think this is really stupid, but I don't make those decisions. It is a combination of Wall Street and Congress that decided that is what should be done.

Then it goes in tanker trucks, some by rail, and in pipelines all across the nation to where it is needed.

Actually, the size of gas tanks in our autombiles plays a role in the supply and demand of gas. If when we went to the gas station, we all only got maybe 1/3 = 1/2 full, there would be more gas not yet sold, and thanks to supply and demand, the price of gas would be lower.

Perhaps in the future, the auto manufacturers can be persuaded to make future cars have more gas in the tank, so that will help drive up the price of gasoline.

  • What will happen when to the US economy when the world's resources of oil and gas finally deplete?

And is the economy likely to bounce back from it?

Just out of interest, cheers! What will happen when to the US economy when the world's resources of oil and gas finally deplete?
All western economies must eventually face this at some point in the future. Some earlier and more comprehensively than others. The good news is that much ingenuity has already been applied to anticipating the day and developing alternatives.

If all the oil ran out tomorrow everyone would be in obvious trouble.Almost everything we do now would come to a grinding halt or at least a slow crawl within weeks. All of a sudden horses would become an extremely profitable business to be in and beasts of burden generally would be back in fashion on the High Street.

The serious answer to the Q is that it depends on the success or otherwise of efforts to find replacements for oil and other fossil fuels and also whether alternative technologies can be found to replace the internal combustion engine specifically and fossil fuels as our main energy source.

If for instance viable renewable bio-fuels can eventually be developed on a large scale cost effectively then the age of the car and all that flows from that may well continue on into the next century and beyond.Even long range air travel could continue if planes can be made to run on it.

If this cannot be done then maybe the combustion engine can be replaced with electric motors. This also means that economy carries on as now (except for aviation ha ha) What about airships ?

If none of that happens then there will still be an economy but who can say how different it will be.There are alternatives to us all going back to the middle ages and I for one don't believe we will ever have to regress that far. What will happen when to the US economy when the world's resources of oil and gas finally deplete?
By the time that happens, the world will have transitioned to the next generation fuel source and changed behaviors to reduce dependence on oil.

This transition is already occuring. People are buying more hybrids and fewer SUVs, public transportation is being utilized more, new technologies that increase efficiency of fuel consumption or use different fuels are becoming more prevalent, etc.
People will finally be forced into being more energy efficient and responsible because they will have no alternative but to do so.
IT wont some beginning comes from some others end .

You could also search for the terms separately to find more information on them.Whats the difference between car oil and gas ?
Car oil is used to lubricate the engine. The gas you get at the filling station is used as fuel to make the car go. Natural gas is used in gas stoves for cooking, and in furnaces to heat your home.

Is anyone else taking advantage of high oil and gas prices to make money?

Has anyone else bought Exxon stock or oil and gas ETF's as a way to get some of your money back from the high prices at the pump?

If not, why are you passing up this great opportunity to get some of your cash back?Is anyone else taking advantage of high oil and gas prices to make money?
I'm still trying to find a long line at the gas station...so I can reminisce about the good ole days. I'm like the first answerer, I have index funds. Is anyone else taking advantage of high oil and gas prices to make money?
There is a little truth in your position, but what happens if the whole economy collapses from high gas prices? Just watch the stock market going down with oil heading towards $200+/barrel.

To bad people believe the Enviros and their leftists politicians.

They spread disinformation and hate about oil companies but they are the ones to blame by not allowing drilling or new refineries as well as many other alternatives - wind (it will kill the birds), solar (it will disturb the deserts) and want us to remove hydroelectric dams. Are you being fooled by these Agents of Anarchy?

I am mostly out of the market watching for another 1929.
We will not trade in the oil commodities on Wall Street, and increase the problems such trading by arm-chair speculators is causing.

We are however SERRIOUSLY concidering having my husband go into business for himself. He currently works as a wind turbine tech, on the commercial wind turbines. My husband is a VERY GOOD mechanic.

We are condidering setting up a business, and switching gas motors in certain models of vehicles, to diesel engines. My husband has been doing a lot of research on this. Most of the gas engine vehicles we are looking at converting get 20-25 mpg on gas. Once converted to diesel these same vehicles (with not other modification) will get between 40-75 mpg on diesel!

We figure once he starts, just by word of mouth, that the waiting list of customers would be booked six months in advance.

By the way, these engine conversions would be with extremely clean, modern diesel engines.

So our way of ';profiting'; from the outrageous fuel prices is to help people make their vehicles at least 50% more fuel efficient.

I saw it coming, but I didn't have the funds to invest. So sadly, I didn't get to buy stock in Exxon Mobile.

(Oh on another note, I wouldn't buy now, since it's most likely going to start going down again. However, a savvy investor might looking at shorting the stock soon. You know betting on it going down.)
Unfortunately I sold my XOM and BP last year after a good run up. Have made 700 on ACI and BTU coal today though. Another 700 on AMSC also. Not too bad a day to recoup some of my losses from the telecom collapse.
By any conservative investment strategy, the stocks are way overpriced. Oil stocks typically don't give good dividends either.
I backed up the truck on ARD, EGN, UPL, and APC a while back.

My favorite miners include BHP, PCU, and ABX.
Yes. Through my 401k investment plan.

A great way to make a good ROI.

The government makes more profit on oil than the ';evil' oil companies. Now that's a scam.
Nope, Oil stocks are a bit to volatile for my tastes. I rolled my 457 over in to precious metals for now.
Mostly the people who make a lot of money are those pump easily recoverable oil out of the ground, like Saudi Arabia. They're getting VERY rich on our folly.

Oil company stock is a very risky proposition. Peak oil and global warming mean that we'll HAVE to move away from oil to alternative energy. And what the government does to oil companies to finance the transition and keep people from revolting over gas prices during it, may not be pretty.
What, and contribute to the oil scam? The oil companies are ripping us off ,and you think investing in the rip-off will help? We ALL know YOU are in the pocket of the oil companies! Your avatar name is now used as 'slang' for being a paid troll with little or no intelligence. Good work!

Why does Russia not have more competition in its oil and gas industry?

The industry is dominated by state-run Gazprom. Is this because it takes so much money to run an oil/gas company that several small companies would be unfeasible? But what are the risks of such a monopoly, both for Russia and European countries who rely on Russian gas and oil?Why does Russia not have more competition in its oil and gas industry?
transportation of gas (via pipelines) is a natural monopoly in the sense that it would be inefficient to have more than one firm.

Since you need access to transportation to produce or export gas, Gazprom essentially controls both production and exports, and chooses not to let any other firms in. Which is not surprizing since Gazprom was created by re-labelling Gas Ministry of Soviet Union.

The oil industry is more decentralized for some reason. Transportation is monopolized by Transneft, but there are privately owned producers (TNK, Lukoil, etc.)Why does Russia not have more competition in its oil and gas industry?
Actually I heard there is one more gas company in Russia, but anyway only Gazprom allowed to export gas.

It is not in the Russian interest to reduce export prices.

    It is Russia's profit.

Also yes even Gazprom sometimes does not have a lot of money to start work on new gas deposit. So this is the reason too.

And it is only about gas.

As about oil there are probably around 10 companies and gazprom is not the leader.

Why is the price of oil and gas going up when so many people are out of work and demand is down?

People are out of work and demand is down so oil companies' income is down.

By hiking the price of gas, they maintain their income.
The libs have outlawed drilling for oil here, forcing us to buy it from countries that hate us. So you might want to thank the idiots who voted the lib puke into office.

  • What is the relationship between Oil and Gas?

What is the relationship between oil ( the earths natural resource) and Gas at the pumps, that fill cars? What is the relationship between Oil and Gas?
Probably about $4 a gallon. What is the relationship between Oil and Gas?
Gasoline is a refinement of crude oil. The process used for this refinement is called ';cracking';. It takes the long chain hydrocarbons and waxes found in crude oil and heats them up to break them into smaller chains. This process is done in a tall cracking tower where crude oil is heated at the bottom of the tower and its lighter constituents are collected at different points up the tower. Longer chaing hydrocarbons for motor oils and lubricants are collected at the bottom of the tower. Gasoline are medium length hydrocarbons such as octane (hence the octane rating on gasoline) and are collected above the longer chained hydrocarbons. At the very top of the tower you get gases like methane, butane and propane. These are sometimes burned off in flares (the flames you see coming from stacks at oil refineries). Additives like ethanol are then added to gasoline to increase the oxygen available for burning in your car's motor. This decreases the amount of soot and incomplete combustion. Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    Andrew
gas (gasoline) is made from oil (crude oil). The gas represents the more volatile hydrocarbons that easily move from liquid to gaseous phase (that is where the term gas came from). Refineries are used to convert crude oil into gasoline. Gas can also refer to natural gas which is often associated with crude oil.
Gas is made from refined oil. No oil, no gas.....

Most workers working offshore have to undertake survival training, nowadays this is usually at one's own expense.

However there is much more to working on the platforms and rigs than survival training.

Most people working on these structures have some experience working on similar plant onshore such as oil refineries and power stations.

If you lack this experience you may find work as a roustabout on the rigs but you need to be pretty fit, don't kid yourself it's easy money.

What will we do when coal, oil and gas runs out?

adapt or perish! I know of a great article I read in one of my nerd magazines. I'll find it for you.

    EDIT:

I figured out the article. If you can get your hands on the September 2006 issue of Scientific American, they have a ton of articles about what you're looking for. The specific article I was thinking of is called ';Pland B for Energy,'; which highlights different technologies that are being researched.

Unfortunately I can't find a free version to read online. If you're willing to pay a few dollars you can purchase the digital version and read it online. What will we do when coal, oil and gas runs out?
    Solar power.
plimage and plunder like the old days
lol in my opinion this is more of a political question than anything but anyways. I honestly think that our government has some other resources that they aren't letting us know about yet. Why? because if we knew that would lose them money...as we all know gas prices are getting higher and higher pretty much every day...so why would the government jump in now and tell us of this alternate fuel source when it would end up losing them billions...
nothing can be done then,if something has to be done,it has to be done now.cut down on global population.

anyways, nuclear energy and antimatter can serve as replacements.furthermore, antimatter has 100% fuel efficiency and is pollution free.for more information on antimatter, just google it.
    die lol i dont know

    wait a couple more centuries

that is if Jesus hasnt come yet lol
    we will be fuc***.

    plain and simple.

    GO GREEN NOW
    Hydrogen!!!!! :)
you can use solar power, wind power, water falls, there i a lot of alternative power.
find another planet and use up its resources
i hear iraq has weapson of mass distruction?!! i mean, oil!!, i mean, coal!! lol

i'm joking.. most deff go the whole corn oil, electric car, solar panel thing.
Well, probably oil will run out then we'll use coal, wood and natural gas. But then maybe these alternative fuels initiatives the current administration is trying to encourage will take off and actually gain some ground. You any of us could start now.

Any diesal engine can be adjusted so it can run off of used vegetable oil, it just costs a lot to get the information you need to get started. And also any diesal engine can run off of biodiesal if you have a facility that sells it nearby. The only issue with biodesiel is that pure biodiesal becomes gelatinous in colder temperatures.

Hopefully we'll find a synthetic petroleum we can use to make plastics, and run off other energy sources for power and cars.
hybrit energy, solar energy, turbo magnetic energy.
We will need to develop solar energy... Solar energy is so awesome... Did you know that 20 minutes of sun light can give us enough energy for the state of California homes and business to run there electricity for 3 months... Now that is POWER... Don't you agree...
hmm i think we will all have to change our cars to use bio fuel and we could still use electricity from the wind and the sea
    OK....here is my hippie theory.

the odds are that when we run out the bigger nations in the middle east like Iran and all the others will have huge reserves of oil and gas. one by one countries will fall into crisis without oil to keep homes heated and cars running. dispirit for fuel. it will be world war 3. nations will team up to keep there supply safe. we will be sending armies not only to protect are allies oil but to take are own from other country's. oil shipping from across the sea will need to be protected by the navy just to get to our shore. after a 5 year war country will slowly run out of receive and die. poverty will be rapid and the country's that were able to keep there oil safe and or to take others oil will be weak from years of war. we wont be able to help the other country's that have been raped for there supply. the USA will be the weakest trying to fight off the Russians and china from raking the rest of our reserve. Russia comes from the north into Alaska first china comes from Cuba as a port. we warn them to back off but these are times of need. country's are in poor shape people are starving. by now consumer fuel is no longer a option as it is going just to keep the war machine going. the country's that can no longer defend themselves are used as ways into other country's. at the end in a act of last resort a nuke is flown straight into the heart of the leading force ( china most likely ) and it is a nuclear. after the world has been blasted. there is no more government. if there is the is no more order. we lack the resource to rebuild. communication has been lost. everyone who has survived has gone to planting crops or looking for food in old war torn city's.

it will take 10 years just for everyone to get back on there feet to just talk to each other on the phone. some will country's will be stronger than other but we can not help the weak. crime will be every were no more order. governments start them collapse. they cant even get a start because there are people that want into power. but there is no power. half of the world is in the dark. they don't no what is going on in there own nation. there is no phones no lights. only the lucky ones have those. the ones who could rebuild. it will be at least 20 years before everything get CLOSE to were it was before. some places there are no hope. but we can only watch as reports come in of are allies troubles. war will start again with what weapons some country have left to keep everything in order. soon all government everywhere will be no more. and we will be were we started in the beginning of time. just trying to stay alive. and the world will be dark. messages will stop coming from other parts of the world as well as other parts of are country. and we will sit there. until there is hope again.

    This **** scares me ....lol
get cold and eat raw fish and build fires like they use to lol on a more serious note our government is looking into building more nuclear power stations and solar energy plus solar windmills.
    I'm going dancing
It has been proven that human enginuity overcomes any challenge so we will have switched to new sources of energy (solar, wind, water, etc) before we have ran out of oil etc.
Stay at home and eat raw food.
Ask yourself this, what did people do before fossil fuels? Seems to me people survived just fine without fossil fuels for years.
We will find an alternate method of fuel. We already have engines that run on alcohol, oils and other alternative fuels. We will probably be more dependent on electric vehicles that use batteries and solar energy to power them.

The bottom line is that we will adapt. We will use what we have available and life will continue to thrive.
Your research will show that you, I and everyone living on planet Earth will be long dead before that happens. The question is just there to scare you into going green. It's a hoax.
Sit in the dark a lot!
I would water use as energy, still very long way. But that's probably the best solution for the future,
This is going to be unpopular, but here goes...

We won't run out of coal or oil. It will become stupidly expensive over time.

Solar will likely not be economical in the quantities that we need.

Please, people, hydrogen is not a source of energy! It is a way to store energy.

Traditional nuclear power is about the only alternative. We can use nuclear power to generate hydrogen.

How do you get someone to drill for oil and gas on your land?

I have land in Coleman County Texas. It is about 200 acres. How do you get someone to drill for oil and gas on your land?
I know nothing about rural Coleman County. Except now, I know it's in TX. The oil companies have a vast staff of geologists; i.e., scientists that look at the lay of the land, what type of rocks are present, and then make a very educated guess as to whether there might be oil under the ground. Sometimes, there's a Jed Clampett who finds oil on his ground and then contacts one of the drilling companies or oil companies, but that is rare and becoming more so. If your neighbors all have wells, though and you don't, you should look into it farther. How do you get someone to drill for oil and gas on your land?
You have a very SMALL chance of getting somebody to drill on your 200 acres because for an oil company to invest the time and money to drill, they need a larger acerage block to ensure that they cover the entire reservior if there is one there and as long as they have been drilling and prosecting in Texas, they are fairly covered every acre that could possibly produce oil.

Prior poster was wrong; oil companies no longer look at surface features or rosk outcropping to determine if oil is present; they now use 3D seismic using basically radio waves to produce a map of underground features in the zones of interest.

The best thing you can do is see if there are producing oil or gas wells around the area of your property and reseach if there was any attempts to drill close to your property before. Some gas fields are on a 1 sqaure mile per wells drainage plan so it maybe possible to get paid mineral interst without them ever setting foot on your land.
I would contact someone that is working in your area with oil and gas and ask them.

About 70 years ago my grandfather could not get anyone to do it so he hired someone to do it at my grandfather's cost. They struck gas and my grandfather got the entire benefit- not just a royalty (but it was a huge and expensive risk).
Im not sure about anything like this, I know my grand father out in Texas had 3 acres or less %26amp; he got them to drill on his land. If it were me, I would just call the drillers %26amp; find out for myself. You never know what could happen now-a-days %26amp; that way you want know forsure.
Maybe they already are. Did you ever hear of 'slant-drilling?'

What is the future of oil and gas drilling in the US?

I am a driller on a drilling rig, and I only want opinions of other oilfield workers.. I.E. Consultants, investors, and geologists. Any incite would be appriciated. What is the future of oil and gas drilling in the US?
I am geologist in the oil and gas industry for about 19 years. I think the future is very bright. There is a demand both for land and offshore rigs worldwide. There are still sufficient reserves and the reserves that were not economic 10 years ago are now better than gold mines ! Even with a very weak dollar .

But this is not only in the state, for example, in West Africa, a drillship which was around 250 000 $ per day in 2000 is now at 450-500 000k$/day ! Same for the jackup, the land rig, the swamp barges etc...

I am very optimistic for the next 20 years (Sorry, I am limited to the horizon of my retirement)What is the future of oil and gas drilling in the US?
being a geologist myself I would say that the future of oil and gas drilling looks very bright. Demand is not going anywhere, and neither is the internal combustion engine.

What do you think would happen if Americans effectively boycotted oil and gas for a week?

It would basically have zero effect, and might even make things worse as limited oil got diverted to China and India. Oil is going up in price because the demand from the growing economies in East Asia is going up faster than new production can be brought on line. The last easy cheap oil was found decades ago (North Sea, Mexico, Alaska) new fields under development are going to be much more expensive because it's crappier oil in difficult to get to areas and often with political instability to boot.

So basically it's supply and demand, in fact we are lucky it stayed as cheap as it has as long as it has. The 1990s economic meltdown in East Asia bought us about a decade, and instead of getting ready for this day, we all bought gas guzzling SUVs. Unless there is a massive drop in world demand for oil or some almost miraculous huge oil discovery somewhere...it's just going to keep going up.

    http://www.wtrg.com/prices.htm

We have no one to blame but ourselves...What do you think would happen if Americans effectively boycotted oil and gas for a week?
America would grriind to a Halt! Report Abuse
What do you think would happen if Americans effectively boycotted oil and gas for a week?
Monkey Boi would declare a state of emergency.

    Then go fishin'
    IT be wonderfull.
iT WOULD B GOOD 4 US
Unfortunately, since many people don't have viable public transportation alternatives, it probably wouldn't work. It's a nice thought, though. We have to focus on buying cars that have higher gas mileage or at least use fuel sources that aren't petroleum-based. Whoever the first company is that brings a cheaper way to transport E-85 fuel will be insanely rich.
We would run out of food. Because a boycott would include the trucks which deliver that food. We would be lighting our homes with candles. Oil and gas are used to generate electricity. Once the week was over we would all climb into our super-cab trucks and SUVs and never look in the mirror at anytime during that week to realize where the blame lies for a situation where we haven't built a new refinery in over thirty years while filling our roadway with more and more vehicles while ignoring the fact of nations like China and India doing the same.

The resultant sounds of griping would also have an effect on my hearing.
if it did work, prices would come dowm but it wont work because people would buy alot of gas the week before and week after
Bush would instantly think the war was over in iraq the instant we didn't need oil.
ever1 in the mid east would be poor and the obesity problem would be solved cuz every1 would have 2 walk
The answer is 'EVERYTHING'! It would cause a ripple effect that could disrupt the entire economy of the world.
Well, the economy would probably grind to a halt, revenue from gas taxes would drop enormously, Al Gore would be happy, and at the end of that week everybody that participated in it would probably think that it was the stupidest thing they had ever done in their adult life.
This would be an excellent thing if it could actually happen. The price of crude oil would go back down to affordable. At least for awhile.
Nothing, it will never happen. People must get to work, companies must continue to operate. It is a non-issue because it is not possible.
and then the following week you have to buy twice as much? that will teach them.
there would be cars on the freeway with no gas
Nothing. Price is dictated by the stock market. It would cause a glut , but they know you will be back eventually, They will just wait you out. They have more money than you .The poor guy that drives the gas truck may get laid off or gas station attendant, but the fat cats will manage.
    Actually...

Since oil is traded in terms of future delivery... Just a serious threat of something like that would turn the markets and probably drop the price of a barrel a by couple of dollars...

But as soon as everyone realized we are full of crap and need it more than they even think, the price would probably jump beyond what it was before the threat!
I think the keyword is in your question... ';effectively';.

I don't think that is possible.
The gas companies would lower the prices
    Not a damn thing.

Everyone would need gas real bad, the week after that.

  • How do I file my investment in oil and gas wells? I didn't last year can I make up for it this year?

I have ';interest'; in 2 natural gas wells. The investment in minimal, but still I know somewhere/ somehow I can deduct all or part on my taxes, but don't know how. Also, I invested in one last year and only reported the income, not the expense, can I now do it this year for last year's investment? All help is WONDERFUL! Thanks! How do I file my investment in oil and gas wells? I didn't last year can I make up for it this year?
You don't generally deduct investments. You pay taxes on the income that they generate. There are special treatments for oil and gas wells but you'd be well advised to seek professional assistance (CPA or tax attorney, not Block or Hewitt) as the rules are complex.

If this is for tax year 2005, you must file an amended return on Form 1040X.How do I file my investment in oil and gas wells? I didn't last year can I make up for it this year?
be worth your money to hire a tax man this year. You can file an amended form for last year, but it has to be done correctly.

What is the best recruitment agency for Oil and Gas Companies in the UK?

I am currently looking for a job with an Oil and Gas firm in the UK or anywhere in the world. I worked for Schlumberger as a Field Engineer and Supervisor for over 3 years in Canada, Pakistan, Tanzania, Egypt and Angola. I would like to know which recruitment agency would help me getting a job in this field in the UK or anywhere outside. I would like to work as LWD / MWD Filed Engineer or in Interpretation or Petrophysics departments. Thanks alot. What is the best recruitment agency for Oil and Gas Companies in the UK?
National Grid handle onshore transmission. There are a bunch that do off-shore, but I don't know anything about them. I believe NG own most of the larger size diameters gas lines in the UK and a substantial part of the electrical network. They own a chunk of the smaller gas lines too, but were in the process of selling some of them off a few years ago.

    Good Luck, Bob

How much oil and gas is actually left in the world?

Price of gas is up yet again and i am reading about it and it says that there might now be enough for the summer driving months what is that supposed to mean? how could there not be enough? how long will oil and gas last for?How much oil and gas is actually left in the world?
Gas price hike during the Summer season is traditional. Its been anticipated that there might just be 50% of fossil fuel left of what is available today in 2025 AD if the consumption continues to be like what is observed in today's scenario. How much oil and gas is actually left in the world?
OBVIOUSLY WE R IN WARS FOR NO REASON, GAS PRICES HAVEN'T DROPPED %26amp; IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THEY R GOING T. AS LONG AS WE PAY THE PRICE THEY HAVE TOTAL CONTROL. IT IS CALLED ECONOMICS
all long as they want.they will keep raising the price, until we quit buying it for the price.

How come Obama and the Dems(party of the people) arent adressing the rising oil and gas prices?

If you think things are bad now hows it gonna be at the end of the summer with 4 dollar gas prices. No stimulus is going to fix that. How come Obama and the Dems(party of the people) arent adressing the rising oil and gas prices?
last summer's price rise was the straw that broke the camel's back - triggered the economic meltdown.

    it was caused by SPECULATORS.

you think they will try that again? i don't. it would finish off what has been started in this catastrophe. How come Obama and the Dems(party of the people) arent adressing the rising oil and gas prices?
I think they came into office with a whole lot of more immediate things to have to deal with--like keeping the US economy from collapsing completely. Pres. Obama has only been in office a little over a month--keep that in mind. Most presidents don't get anything done for months and months (if ever). The vastly fluctuating oil and gas prices are one of the reasons Pres. Obama is eager to get the US into more alternative power ways of living--so we won't be so dependent on whatever the oil-rich places (and oil-controlling people) want to charge. I'm sure the vastly fluctuating oil prices will be considered by summer--he probably has guys already looking into that whole good ol' boy network.
    Blah...Blah...Blah...

The same Democrats predicted gas at $5.50 per gallon by Labor Day in '08. The sky is falling....quick....Obama's the only one smart enough, eloquent enough, and messianic to save us all...let's run to the great and powerful OZ...uh...Obama!

Oil is based on supply and demand, in case you didn't notice there's a global recession on, and gas is trading at about 1/4 of what it was at it's peak. We need to raise supply now, so when the recession breaks, the price increase will not go too steep.

Obama's answer...10 cents per gallon tax on fuel...that will be passed on to every American family through higher retail prices on food and other items. Oh...plus you gotta pay the 10 cents on your own fuel! Let's not drill for any of the oil we have...we might cause a bull moose to loose his ability to mate!

It's not a democrat/republican issue...it's a common sense issue of supply %26amp; demand. If there's a good supply of prosperity in the open market...there's no DEMAND for government to play ';Big Brother'; to everyone.

America was formed for individual liberty not collective social welfare!
The prices right now are still relatively low, especially compared to last summer and compared to other countries. Right now, Obama is killing the Dow and all private businesses and doesn't seem to care, and that is a much bigger concern. There is nowhere to invest money.
because they're owned by the environmental nut jobs! don't forget nuclear! wind, and solar are fine, but what are we supposed to do for a stop gap measure while these alternate sources are being developed, and incorporated in the retail pipeline? you're right about $4.00 or higher gasoline this summer!
What would you have them do? Invade an oil-rich nation? Oh, wait, we already tried that. Oil is a limited resource, and production in the continental USA peaked around 1970. The only thing that will make oil prices go down is reduction of demand.
Higher prices means more profits which means more taxes. They'll need $150 oil and $4 a gallon gas to help pay for all of spending they're doing..
because most who supported him ride public transportaion or steal they gas
No Stimulus will not fit a lot of things. IDK. I guess so much other B.S. is going on it is hard to say.

How do you start a career in the offshore oil and gas industry?

    find an oil rig
by applying for it to the company concerned.
    Buy an Oil Rig.

Or Just Get shares in British Gas.
You can go to careerbuilder.com and look at the listings for possible positions, and also look at the company profile.
Phone a Gas or Oil Company and ask what qualifications you need to seek employment within their company.
First off, you need an ABS card. or something like one. The US Merchant Marines is another place to look into. These are like the Tickets that allow you to work in an Offshore Enviroment, without them, no job.

  • How were oil companies able to raise oil and gas prices after 9/11?

I am doing a research essay on how oil corporations were able to use the 9/11 attacks to their own advantages. I was wondering how they were able to raise it, my professor told me I need specific events on how the oil corporations and the government negotiated to raise the oil prices dramatically.

What did the oil companies do to raise the price of oil and gas after 9/11 is pretty much my question. How were oil companies able to raise oil and gas prices after 9/11?
A major event occurred. Therefore, the oil corporations raised the price of their products.

There doesn't have to be a logical reason. It's just that our economy is so intertwined with oil that when ANYTHING happens, they can jump up and say, ';We have to raise our prices because the hippopotamus flu is showing up in Paraguay and this caused a change in our shipping and refinery process, and so YOU have to pay for it because we don't want to sell our vacation homes in Tahiti!'; And then we pay.

In the case of 9/11, if there was such a spike in prices, which I don't remember, it was likely because of delays and increased costs due to enhanced security. How were oil companies able to raise oil and gas prices after 9/11?
You need to research what factors control the price of Oil and Natural Gas. Oil companies and government do not 'conspire' to raise the price of Oil and Gas. Are they publicly traded commodities? Does the market drive the price of Oil and Gas?

A better question is, what specific events occurred as a result of the 9/11 attacks that lead to an increase in the traded price of oil and gas?

A decrease in supply or an increase in demand. Did the U.S. import less oil from overseas causing an increase in supply which facilitated an increase in prices?

Oil companies and 'government' do not take advantages and set prices on oil and gas.

You professor sounds like a hippie conspiracy theorist.

    My opinion, respectively.
More or less pretended that it was neccessary, their owners are part of the ruling classes, the media and government are on the same side, they're the same people, they do what they want, and 9/11 was an excellent excuse to do anything they wanted.

Sorry, that won't help your essay, but I'm sure you'll find specifics.
I believe it started with a phone call. There is collusion in prices everywhere and the Feds could care less. The media runs interference for the big guys.

It doesn't much matter what the disruption is... any excuse is good enough to raise prices.
How do you know if that assertion is even true? Sounds like your professor is biased (not surprisingly).

How does one become a oil and gas landman?

What degree is preferred to get into this field? What steps does one have to take?? How much do these guys get paid?? Is it stressful??How does one become a oil and gas landman?
There is no degree required, it pays very well if you can get enough work, not too stressful, in fact boring.

And I dont' know anyone who is a landman who didn't ';know someone';.

What replaces the oil and gas we harvest from below the oceans ?

The oil below the oceans must habe been well encased from the water to remain pure. After we pump it out, will it be replaced with water, or do we just have large air bubbles down there now ?

If it is air, is it possible that the bubble could collaps one day and create problems? What replaces the oil and gas we harvest from below the oceans ?
Actually the oil comes to surface under its own pressure, we only use water or gas to 'lift' the remaining oil out. When we have extracted all the oil that is possible out of the reservoir, the water that is down there natually fills in the pore space that was once occupied with oil.

If its air (just for the purposes of your question), it will not collapse if sufficient air is there at sufficient presssures to occupy the pore space where the oil originally was. What replaces the oil and gas we harvest from below the oceans ?
some oil companies have been pumping in waste products like carbon dioxide. it has been put forth as a possibel solution to releasing green house gases into the atmosphere. however, it would be costly and the long term effects are not known.
salt water is pumped into the drilling hole to float the oil and exract it easily. it replaces the former oil pocket

How does oil and gas come out of the ground?

Can someone please detail some applications used to get oil out of the ground and explain what happens to it when it does? How does oil and gas come out of the ground?
Oil and gas come out of the Ground in various forms

The most typical product is crude oil (Usually namesd after the field it is produced from, such as Brent Crude / Ninian Crude etc) Other products include Gas which can come in dry or saturated (wet) forms (ike gas condensate). In either instance, Oil and Gas require a degree of seperation after they are circulated into a platforms process system.

To get the oil and gas out of the ground, Geologists perform surveys on areas ready for oil exploration. Using various seismic techniques including exploratory drilling, they determine the likelyhood of a field being ';economically viable'; in terms of installing a platform or FPSO (Floating Production / Storage Offloadiing) vessel.

In the instance where an oil company decides to capitalise on a find, either onshore or offshore, the commisioning phase of oil production is started.

An oilfeild is in basic terms a big pourous rock with the properties not unlike those of a sponge, that contains hydrocarbons. In order to free up these hydrocarbons and circulate them to the surface, they must firs drill wells to tap into the supply. During a feilds initial life, it is sometimes found that the ';reservoir'; is positively charged (pressurised) and flows freely without any assitance to do so. In later life, these wells require ';stimulation'; and ';well intervention'; drilling based technologies that essentially increase asset uptime, preventing delays in processing crude / gas and pumping it ashore.

A well has 3 significant parts, Casing, Tubing and completion. In relative terms, the casing is the outside shell of the well, that prevents the pressures of the well breaching containment and spilling into the ocean or landscape. Tubing is used to produce oil back to the surface or alternatively treat the well with specialist chemicals. The area between the casing and tubing is called the annulus, and must also be pressurised with a drilling fliud in order to equalise the pressures associated with oil and gas production.

Coiled tubing is a well intervention technique develped specifically to perform well maintenance. It has numerous applications but in the north sea it is commonly used as a ';gas lift'; technique - so called because it pumps an inhert gas (N2) downhole to charge a dead reservoir and pring on production. - usually, a platform will have its own produced water system that is designed to do the same thing o a larger - more permenant scale.

There are lots more applications but I hope your happy with what I've written :DHow does oil and gas come out of the ground?
It is mined. And then it is used as petrol, diesel etc.
when they drill to a position that has gas, because of the high pressure that gas has in the ground it comes up by itself,no means required.

for oil its a little more tricky.I think that they pump steam to the oil in order to create pressure difference and the oil comes up to surface
THey are both mined....pretty much put a drill into the ground and suck up the stuff.

Now oil has no chemical formula. Its carbon molecules with varying length of the carbon chain. You can have C2....or C100...etc That is...the number of carbons in 1 molecule of the oil.

Usually the oil is taken to some sort of ';cracker';. Pretty much pour the oil into a giant distillation collumn, crank up the temp to a few thousand degrees (no oxygen so it doesn't blow up).

IN here the molecules get broken up into various sizes (methane, ethane,propane.........etc)

Now the temperature in this column varies. Top of the column is cooler than the bottom and it gradually gets hotter towards the bottom.

If a heavier molecule is at the top of the column, it'll turn into liquid and drip down.....if a lighter moleucle is at the bottom...it'll vaporize and float up.

There are exits all along the column. You get your methane, ethane, propane butanes....... towards the bottom you get your diesel, jet fuel. The very bottom is usually used for asphalt.
When an oil/gas reservoir has been discovered, the objective is to get it out of the ground.

This is accomplished by drilling a well and running piping into the hole.

The final act of drilling is to fix an assembly of valves onto the piping at the top of the well.

This assembly is called a Christmas Tree (Xmas-tree) and, as one valve is not enough to control oil flow safely, at least two valves are needed.

The first one is called the Master Valve which is normally kept open and is used only as an isolation when the second valve fails to operate or when under maintenance.

The fluids from a well, will normally come to the surface under the pressure built up underground when they were forming millions of years ago.

When a well has been producing for many years and its natural pressure has diminished to a point where production is too low. Other procedures can be carried out to recover more oil if it's available.

These are: Gas lift gas injection operations; Installation of a down-hole pump; Injection of water from an adjoining water table to build up the water drive under the oil in the reservoir

The Xmas-tree is connected to piping (flowlines) to carry the oil and gas (and produced water) to the separation plants where the gas is separated and fed to compression units, sweetening (H2S removal) and dehydration plants and sent on for further processing.

The oil is separated from water and is sent to refineries for further processing.

The water is drained away to 'skimming' tanks to remove traces of oil and disposed of.
    Mostly upward...

What mechanism is the largest consumer of oil and gas?

We all know America is the largest consumer of oil and gas but WHAT specifically is the largest consumer of oil and gas? What mechanism is the largest consumer of oil and gas?
The largest consumer of natural gas is industrial process heating (usually for steam), followed closely by residential heating.

The largest consumer of crude oil is transportation fuels, of which gasoline is the biggest market.

Go to the Energy Information Agency for more info. What mechanism is the largest consumer of oil and gas?
should be the transportation such as cars, trucks, airplanes.
    Al Gore.

    His transportation and house.
    cars and planes
Almost certainly transportation. That'd be my guess.

  • Can Canada sell oil and gas to Canadians cheaper and still make a profit?

Canada make it oil and gas. Why can't Canadian company sell the gas and oil cheaper to Canadians, like other rich oil country do for their own people, and sell the rest to the other country at world prices. Do the oil companys need all that money? Why can't they make life in Canada better for Canadains and ower familys! I ask why not?Can Canada sell oil and gas to Canadians cheaper and still make a profit?
Canadians benifit from all the oil sold.It belongs to the people of Canada.Oil companies have to pay the government for it.Without those oil revenues we would be paying a lot more taxes. The government could subidize the canadian gas companies and make fuel cheaper, but you will still and up paying for it in your taxes. It`s better to leave the free market alone. This way the people who use it, pays for it.If you do not like the price do not buy it.Can Canada sell oil and gas to Canadians cheaper and still make a profit?
You ain't from Canada, So why you got the right to question the way they do business?

If you are from Canada,,,what makes you think you are any different than any other westerner?

    Point,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,鈥?br>

The USA could drill in Anwar and never have to worry about oil again.

But, we have the lib's and tree huggers that would absolutely die if we even tried.

Hippies,,,what can you say, except that in about twenty years we won't have to worry about them any more.Just their remnants of children that haven't killed themselves and others with them.

Sorry hippies, But the truth is in the pudding, and your generation has left us a nasty bunch of pudding skin to deal with.God forgive you and your uninformed children.
Its called a free market, not a welfare state. One way the companies could make it cheaper for Canadians would be to decrease oil taxes. There is a big diffrence between a corporations profit and profit margin, two points to ponder if you know the difference.

When do you predict oil and gas will run out?

-If you can , where is your evidence and what sites can i find this information. When do you predict oil and gas will run out?
they should run out in about 200 years. When do you predict oil and gas will run out?
never. i work in the oil patch. the inventories you read about are for oil in underground reserviors. there is probably 1,000 times as much oil in fissures or cracks in the shale. this can be collected by creating caverns underground which will slowly fill and can then be pumped once a week or month depending on how fast the caverns fill. then again there is oil shale which can be processed into oil. the western US natural gas (and oil shale) field spreads from Northern Colorado, through Wyoming %26amp; Idaho and into Montana and Canada. look at the % of the US oil %26amp; gas that comes from Canada. we have 1,000 times as much oil %26amp; gas as Canada- when the US government allows US drilling the US will be a net exporter of oil.
It's very difficult to predict. As the oil or gas fields are depleted, the cost of extraction increases. The field is abandoned when extraction costs exceed the return from the product.

When oil and gas become scarce, the cost of the the product will increase accordingly and abandoned fields will become economic once again.

Also, nobody can predict how much undiscovered product remains.

Ignore all the wacky conspiracy theories, the answer is all about economics.
    next week! lol idk

What is interesting in the oil and gas industry?

I need to write an essay about an aspect of the oil and gas industry, and I am looking for something interesting to write about. Is the any new and developing part of it? I was thinking the oil sands, but every one will do that, and I want to write about something innovative. Any ideas? What is interesting in the oil and gas industry?
This is your lucky day! I'm going to give this to you on a silver platter. See if you can find anything about thermal flooding. It might be called in-situ combustion or fire flooding.

Heavy oils (really thick and viscous) cannot be conventionally recovered. New research is being done on heating the oil up so that it becomes less viscous and more mobile (ex. at room temp wax wont flow, but heat it up and becomes less viscous and ';melts';). The standard technique is injecting steam, but it loses heat as it travels several miles down the well.

Air injection, is injecting regular air into the reservoir so that it meets the oil and oxygenates causing combustion. It does not burn with a flame, but more like smolders. This heats the reservoir up and produces CO2 that also makes the oil more mobile. Though you are burning a small percent of the oil down there, it will remove the rest of the oil. The combustion forms a front, like a wave, moving through the reservoir, heating and pushing the oil towards a second producing well (there is one you are injecting the air in and another abut 300 feet away that you are producing the oil out of) The heat also causes any water in the reservoir to become steam, which helps to distribute the heat.

    hear are some quick bullets:

    - Heat is generated within reservoir by continuously

injecting air (or oxygen-enriched air) and igniting

down hole spontaneously or by down hole heater

    - Injected oxygen partially burns crude generating

heat and producing CO2, CO and steam

    - The technique generates an in-place (in-situ)

combustion zone propagating inside the reservoir,

self-sustaining itself and creating an upgraded oil

    bank (the wave) further downstream

    - Recovery mainly relies on crude oil viscosity

    reduction, expansion, distillation and solvent

    extraction, among others

    Advantages:

    - Applicable to many crude oils up to 40 oAPI (really thick and viscous)

    - More efficient heat generation than steam injection

    - High displacement efficiency (removes a lot of oil)

-Air readily available (easy to access and cheap)

-Produces upgraded (lighter oil than original) oil

    Disadvantages:

-Air compression (the injecting device) expensive

-Hard to control the combustion propagation; producing

equipment can be damaged (once combustion is started, it cant be stopped or controlled)

-Unburned oxygen not desired at the producers; (it has to be removed)

-Emulsion (oil and water mixed up) handling and corrosion problemsWhat is interesting in the oil and gas industry?
coal bed methane production: producing gas from uneconomic or mined coal seams via drill holes, usually with a local generator to convert the gas directly into electricity.

Downhole well logging: using electronic probes and cameras to map the path and features of oil wells.
Look up secondary and tertiary recovery as well as horizontal drilling. That will give you some food for thought.

What will happen when oil and gas prices get soo pricey that are unafordable?

Let's assume, that gas prices goes to $100 a gallon so it can not be bought by almost anybody. What will happen to the economy and to everybody else? Should we kill ourselves? Does the increase in oil prices is the end of the world or at least civilization? What will happen when oil and gas prices get soo pricey that are unafordable?
If that does happen, a lot more people will be walking, riding bikes and finding other modes of transportation. Cities will be forced to become more self-sufficient, meaning that people will not have to go very far to get to their jobs or to the store. Hey, there just might be a silver-lining after all.

I imagine that if such a thing happen, the economy would collapse, but I could be wrong. I do know that people would find a way to adapt and keep on going. It's what we do, what we've always done. It wouldn't be the first time a superpower collapsed. Remember Rome? The collapse was so great that it set off the Dark Ages. But people continued to live. They adapted, made do. And eventually, things got better. I think that history is cyclic, not linear. Everything that is happening now, has happened before.

The increase in oil prices is a burden and even I am feeling the pinch which is laughable because I can't drive and don't own a car! (It has caused the price of food, electricity and bus fare to go up, so I am still affected.) But it will not end the world and it will not end civilization. Human beings are remarkably adaptable and do well in times of adversity. What will happen when oil and gas prices get soo pricey that are unafordable?
Well before it goes that high we will go into a depression that will last over 20 years. Expect the increased prices to cause massive layoffs and cut hours and pay to over 90% of Americans and also that will result in over 90% of Americans to go bankrupt, lose thier homes,

So yes the end of the world as we know it will happen in the next 2 years unless we ahve a MAJOR change in our and all world Governments.
Apparently oil industry economists call this ';demand destruction';. People will want less. If there is still lots of oil *and* lots of refinery capacity, prices may stabilize, or even go down.

I expect civilization would not end, and if gas got to $100/gallon, it would be part of a general inflation (wages would go up too)
The only way it'll get cheaper is if we start riding horses again and feeding them refried beans - I'm just not hopeful. I'm using the bus in the meantime and only the car when necessary. I know everyone doesnt live in the city...but - what can you do?
When the prices get to high, people will stop buying it. That will reduce demand and that will lower prices. Just like magic. Take a course in economics in a free market economy. It will take your mind off killing yourself.
The sale of bicycles will increase dramatically. Invest now!!!
The cost of pedal bikes will go up as a result of more people buying them and ditching their cars.
the economy will collapse long before that.
    Anarchy then apocalypse.

How do you report an oil and gas bonus payment for federal taxes? What depletion deduction is permitted?

The answer to your question is dependent on a number of factors that you have not provided and may not even know. The first and most important is how the payments are reported to you? If this is a great deal of money you may wish to seek assistance from a professional tax adviser. If you are using one of the free tax e-file systems you may not be able to accomplish this task even if you knew what to do.How do you report an oil and gas bonus payment for federal taxes? What depletion deduction is permitted?
Schedule E for reporting, 15% for depletion

  • If we are short of oil and gas, why are our oil companies exporting crude and gas to Canada and Mexico?

Why should we drill more oil wells when our oul companies are exporting millions of gallons of crude and gas daily to Mexico and Canada. If we drill more, won't they just export more? If we are short of oil and gas, why are our oil companies exporting crude and gas to Canada and Mexico?
The US is not a net exporter of oil to Canada or Mexico. The US is a massive net importer of oil from those countries (i.e. any oil that gets exported to those countries is more than compensated for by imports).

It is a fiction that developing oil in the US will affect US oil prices more than developing oil in Russia or Saudi Arabia or wherever will, simply because oil is freely traded between countries and comes at a single price worldwide. So long as you're importing any oil at all, you have to pay the market price for it, and there simply isn't enough oil on US soil to supply all of US demand without importing some. If we are short of oil and gas, why are our oil companies exporting crude and gas to Canada and Mexico?
Because it's a free market and these are private companies. Now, if we had a nationalized energy system like Venezuela and Mexico have, we'd have plenty of oil and gas at a MUCH cheaper price.
We get most of our oil from Mexico and Canada.

I'll get the chart in a minute.

    http://www.eia.doe.gov/bookshelf/brochur鈥?/a>
If you only look at what they're selling overseas, you're not getting the whole picture.

We use 20 billion barrells per day, we produce less than half of that.

Somehow, we have to be buying more than we're selling. A lot more.
I think you have that backwards. America imports about 23% of it;s crude from CAnada and Mexico.

How high will oil and gas prices have to go before Obama and Democrats address the issue?

They will do everything they can to drive energy prices up and keep them there, this fits into the plans of the environazis that control the Dems. They will not be happy until we are incaves and driving Flintstone cars. How high will oil and gas prices have to go before Obama and Democrats address the issue?
Gas prices are high because demand has dipped due to a global recession and as such the OPEC nations have slowed production to artificially raise prices and continue making a profit rather than let the price of their commodity fall due to shrinking demand.

Makes sense from an economic stance especially if you take their side but it just proves how utterly reliant we are to these for profit entities. The only way to fix gas prices is to start having an economy that is not structured around a fuel source that we have to buy from someone else. If we can choose what we fuel ourselves with from among options, then competition will drive down costs. As long as oil has a monopoly on our transportation energy needs prices can be raised or lowered arbitrarily. How high will oil and gas prices have to go before Obama and Democrats address the issue?
Didn't BHO promise the masses a house with its own kitchen, a car, and yes!, even gas? Before BHO and the Dems do anything, Big O will need to appoint a gas Csar! Go here for the latest Csar list: http://americanelephant.wordpress.com/20鈥?/a> . Also I thought it was funny on Glenn Beck talking about Obama could appoint a ';Cow Fart Csar.'; I also have to agree with Swampy V and Mattdman. Obama was raised in the good old fashion Marxist way. So... Obama and his crew won't want to help until he has gotten rid of the middle class and has elevated all his minions by giving them city/state/federal jobs, a $250,000 house as public housing, and on and on. Just a note: One of Obama's lst csar appointee's was an Urban Csar. And he also appointed an Energy Csar, Green Csar, Weather Csar and so on. NOTICE that he has not appointed a Suburbia Csar or a Rural Csar, so if you don't live in the inner city, you will be SOL.
But, wait, it's GW and the evil Republicans who are in bed with the oil companies. Why isn't gas below $1/gallon now that those mean conservatives aren't in power anymore?

The government should not control the price of anything. All it does is create shortages and ruin the economy. Doesn't anyone remember gas rationing in the 1970's?

    .
As George W pointed out in 2001, what needs to be done should have been done about 5 years ago - which puts it squarely in the laps of the Republicans.

So why did they do nothing about it? Probably because they were too busy greasing their own palms with it.
What ever supply and demand are...sure we can drill in the USA, but thats atleast 5 years away even if we started today, and what makes u think it will be cheaper? There are alot of Unions for the oil drillers, and that will raise the price sky high, just like cars. The pres has nothing to do with gas prices, just like ha cant stop wonder bread from charging what they want.

    Live with it.
Last year when it went up to $4.50/gallon, all I heard was that it was Bush couldn't do anything about it because the price was driven by supply and demand.

Despite the fact that supply was at an all time high and demand was at a decade low.
I heard the other day that oil will reach $250 a barrel by November. The thought of oil going that high has Obama and the kooky liberals salivating. They love it when the middle class suffers.
Let the market decide the prices of gas, that is the philosophy of the Republican Party.
They want a percentage, so the higher Opec raises the rates the higher they hope to tax the consumer. OB %26amp; Co,. are all about stealing from the populace while pretending they are not
it's not even on their radar screen...taking over banking, automotive,

and controlling big tobacco and ruining health care has them full up!!!
That's just it. They never will. They never have before. Truth be told they want the prices so high that we'll all be forced into their ';green'; agenda which is a total crock to begin with.
It will go higher until it reaches a point where people drive less....then demand will go down, along with price....same thing as last year
They will do nothing for the issue! They want it to go up so it will force people to buy the ';new government line of cars'; that no one wants!
as high as they went while ';little'; georgie bush, the village idiot from Texass was in the White House.
Not as high as they were last summer.

    How quickly we forget.
Are you kidding, they want high oil and gas prices.
Oil is down again on lack of demand.
Obama is in bed with big oil just like Bush was.
Didn't you hear? They are trying to make gas free for all those who earn less than 20,000 a year.
Who says they can do anything about it?

I accidentally put an oil and gas mixture into my gas tank for my kawaski dirtbike. What do I do?

I accidentally put an oil and gas mixture into my gas tank for my kawaski dirtbike. What do I do? Also, what will happen. Please and thank you.I accidentally put an oil and gas mixture into my gas tank for my kawaski dirtbike. What do I do?
Just take the tank off and dump it out. All it will do is make your bike smoke a little till the oil burns out.I accidentally put an oil and gas mixture into my gas tank for my kawaski dirtbike. What do I do?
umm you might need a new tank b/c my brother put dirt in mine once and we had to get a lot of stuff done too it but im not sure what the effects are of what you did. GOOD LUCK THOUGH!
run the tank dry, it will only smoke until it runs dry.
    nothing its fine
Drain it out of the tank and put plain gasoline in there.

You can either disconnect the fuel line from the bottom of the tank and drain the oil/gas into a container, or just turn the bike on its side and pour the fuel out into a container.

    Nothing bad will happen.
how much.? if not a significant amount, just dilute it with

more gas.... just run it.. then dilute it...
drain it out, it will smoke for a little while but won't hurt anything. done it myself before
    i don't know

phone an expert and get it fixed!
its will just smoke ,run it out
Is it a 4 stroke? 2 stroke? if it is a 2 stroke, is it pre mix type or oil injection type? It makes a difference.
Pull the fuel line off the gas tank and drain. Reattach the fuel line and put in fresh (un-mixed) gas. Then just drive it as you would normally. Worst case scenario is you would have to clean the carburetor and change the plug(s) but I have never had to and I have run into this problem time and time again.
add more gas to the tank and drive it out , it will smoke untell you drive it all out if you get a miss fire just clean plugs. and keep on truckin.
My Husquvarnas had a drain under the tank...if so drain the tank.. put some gas inthe tank and drain that too...then fill the tank completely full with fresh gas...

it may smoke a little at first, but it shouldn't hurt anything.....

How is Oil and Gas Industry related to Electrical engineering jobs?

I don't understand how oil and gas industry has anything to do with electrical engineering jobs??

Am I not seeing this because currently I am working as a electronics engineer ?

This is how I am thinking about this - Oil and gas industry , digs up oil , provides it to our cars and trucks so they can run. Now I don't understand how or where ';Electrical engineers'; come into play into this ?? Please make me understand. I want to know.

P.s: I am an entry level electronics engineer, with a degree in ';Electrical engineering'; , Currently I am located in Houston, texas. How is Oil and Gas Industry related to Electrical engineering jobs?
The oil and gas industry may more be well known to hire chemical engineers or geologists, but EEs are definitely around. For example, chemical processes in refineries have to be monitored and controlled. The computer network that controls these processes have to be designed and implemented by the help of EEs. Electrical power also needs to be delivered to various processes. These type of work are not the typical EE work like developing microprocessors or printed circuit boards. How is Oil and Gas Industry related to Electrical engineering jobs?
Electronics is a narrow field within electrical engineering. You're missing the big picture. Electricity doesn't create itself. Electricity, whether generated by oil or water power, needs to be harnessed and controlled for delivery through the grid. And per your example, gas fuels your car, but also powers the electrical system so the car will work.

Are you a member or familiar with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers? You should definitely look at their website for more information about the entire scope of electrical engineering careers and industries. http://www.ieee.org/portal/site
This website will show you jobs in your discipline in the oil and gas industry. Take a good look at the descriptions to find out what the work could involve, and follow a trail on the internet to see where you could use your skills in your local area. You will need to think about travel at some point though, in this industry.
